I try to stay away from Mcdonald’s but especially during summer, who can resist an oreo McFlurry? If you have been living under a rock and don’t know what an oreo McFlurry is, it’s this really sweet soft serve iced cream with Oreos. You can also get them with M&M’s instead of Oreos. They are to die for.
How to Make The Soft Serve Iced Cream
This soft serve iced cream recipe does include an iced cream maker but there are a number of ways that it can be done. I won’t go over those here because I’m not an expert so I’ll leave you to explore those options yourself.
What Is The Difference Between Hard and Soft Serve Iced Cream
The only difference between hard and soft serve iced cream is the consistency. To get a soft serve consistency, you can just put your iced cream base in the iced cream maker, let it do it’s thing, and enjoy. For hard serve, you are just going to freeze your iced cream after it comes out of the maker, overnight. If your iced cream is too hard to be soft serve, just let it melt a little. I do have a hard serve recipe on the blog if you want to check it out.
Different Iced Cream Maker Options For This Soft Serve Iced Cream Recipe
Kitchen Aid Iced Cream Maker
This is the one that I personally use. You just freeze the bowl and then put it on the kitchen aid. Then churn until you get a soft serve iced cream consistency. I really like this iced cream maker because its just an attachment for my existing kitchen aid which I use all the time.
Cuisinart Iced Cream Maker
A cuisinart iced cream maker work a little differently. The bowl goes in the freezer overnight preferably and then you place the bowl back in the free standing machine. You then turn on the machine to churn.
Hamilton Beach Iced Cream Maker
This is the cheapest brand of iced cream maker of the list. You do not freeze anything either. Instead you put ice around the bowl, kind of like the old fashion iced cream maker.
And that’s it! That’s how to make a refreshing and decadent homemade iced cream cake. Leave me a comment for any questions that you might have and also let me know your favorite Father’s Day Treats. Oreo McFlurry
A recreation of a popular fast food confection. A sweet, creamy vanilla base soft serve iced cream with oreo crumbs mixed in.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups of Whole Milk
- 3 Egg Yolks
- 1 1/2 Cups of Heavy Cream
- 1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
- 3/4 Cup of Oreo Crumbs
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 of a Teaspoon Salt
Instructions
Preporations the Night Before
- If you are using an iced cream maker that has to freeze. Put that in the freezer overnight.
The Iced Cream Base
- In a large heavy bottom sauce pot, heat the whole milk to a light simmer.
- In the meantime, Seporate 3 eggs. In another large bowl beat together the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla and salt until the mixture is a pale yellow color.
- When the milk is up to temperture, gently pour in some of the hot milk to the eggs while mixing. This is so that the eggs come to temperture gently and don't curdle.
- Pour the entire mixture back into the pot and cook stirring constantly until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. About 5 minutes
- Shut off and let it cool.
- Pour in the heavy cream when the mixture is cool.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve to make sure everthing is smooth.
- Refrigerate for 2-4 hours or until chilled.
Making The Iced Cream
- Put the iced cream in the iced cream maker and churn until you get a soft serve consistancy. About 10-15 minutes.
- Add in the cookie crumbs and churn until they are evenly dispersed.
- Enjoy right away for soft serve (recommended for Mcflurries) or freeze overnight for hard serve.
