Hi Everyone! How are we all holding up? I don’t know about you but I want to make a cheesecake but I have no more cream cheese left. So I decided to make simple homemade cream cheese. This cream cheese is extremely easy and I can’t wait to show you how to do it. So let’s get started.
Simple Homemade Cream Cheese: Process
This process could not be easier.. All you have to do is warm up some milk, add some vinegar and strain it through a cheesecloth. The only thing to remember is to put the cream cheese in the cheese cloth and let it sit for 20 minutes. DO NOT RING IT OUT AFTER THAT. It needs that little bit of liquid or it will be too dry.
Cheesecloth Vs. Nut Milk Bag
You could use 2 different methods to strain this cream cheese. You could use a cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. I personally like nut milk bags because they are like a cheesecloth but they are an enclosed bag with a drawstring so you can put your contents in the bag and tighten the drawstring. Where as a cheese cloth is just a long sheet of cloth that you drape over a bowl and pour your contents overtop. The downside is that the corners can fall and some of your contents can fall through and not get strained.
Homemade Cream Cheese
A very simple recipe with just 2 ingredients to make some creamy, dreamy cream cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 Cups of Whole Milk
- 3 TBSP of White Distilled Vinegar
Instructions
- Place the whole milk in a large sauce pot and bring it to a simmer and turn off the heat.
- Add the vinegar, on tablespoon at a time and stir between each addition. The milk will curdle up very quickly.
- Add the mixture to a nut milk bag or strip of cheesecloth that is sitting on top of a sieve that is sitting in a bowl to catch the whey. Let the excess way drain off for 15 minutes. Do not squeeze the contents of the bag or cloth.
- Blend the cheese up in a food processor until smooth.
Notes
Leave in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
